Mark,

I haven't heard directly from you or anyone else objecting to modified
Sunbirds so maybe I should post this to clear the air for everyone . This
contest is all about Dave Thornburg, we are having two events in one short
day to honor Dave's contributions to R/C soaring and HL in particular. It
is not the kind of contest where we are going to get up tight about rules.
Meaning, what if Dave shows up with a Sunbird that is not very close to the
plans he published in Model Builder magazine, ( he has built variations
also) obviously what ever he brings is OK. This is his day and if anyone
has trouble with flying this contest with modified Sunbirds then the
solution is don't participate. I will gladly return the entry fee to
anyone that can't go along with this.

If you think about it, a contest is really a social event with sailplanes,
to be enjoyed and remembered.

The day is going to start promptly at ten am with a few nice words of
thanks to Dave and then the flying will begin immediately. There will be
no time or interest to discuss everyone's rendition of the rules and we are
not going to spend the short day with a ruler and plans checking in
Sunbirds.

This day is dedicated to spending a day on the flying field with Dave and
a bunch of great guys doing their thing.

Ray Hayes
