Hey Mike, I asked a similar question in December, and received a variety of answers. Most prevalent was use MS Flight Sim, or pick your favorite game. I had money burning a hole in my pocket, and got enough positive responses about it that I purchased RealFlight Deluxe (http://www.realflight.com) for $230, and later Add-ons Volume Two (adds a couple more gliders). The ability to practice at any time in any weather (during the winter) I find very useful. I haven't found a way to Slope with it, and haven't turned on the thermal generation feature much, but thermals do work. You can also setup wind speed, direction, gust speed, direction and deviations for both. It's also fun to play with the helicopter, and to see just how difficult they really are to fly. The simulator (and good advise) helped me quickly overcome the reverse control problem when flying toward yourself. The advise was "stick toward low wing" or something along that line. I likely would of overcome this while flying enough with my foam plane though... I also like RealFlight as it allows me to use my transmitter (Futaba) for control. Now I can get use to switch placement, different programming modes and lots of other cool things it can do. I cannot give any experienced based pro's and con's yet, as I haven't got enough real flight time yet :-( Buy a foam plane (Mad Highlander http://www.madaircraft.com/, DAW 1-26 or TG-3 http://www.davesaircraftworks.com/ were recommended to me - I have a 1-26), and throw it around. Join a club and get some instruction. Ask a lot of questions to RCSE. You can do without the simulator, but I enjoy it, and get good practice seeing how long I can stay aloft. Robert S.
