Two words.

Range Check.

FWIW, I run the antenna inside all my composite planes. I have the RX antenna in the CF boom of a Topaz and down the tail of my Artemis LT and NYX. I also run internal antennas on composite fuse gasoline (ignition) powered planes. All without any problems.

But as with anything, do a good range check. In the case of gliders I set the plane up on something (non-metal) and actually walk as far as possible form it with the antenna extended. Use a buddy on a cell phone or binoculars if necessary.

YMMV
