I took the Z06 out to the Hampshire SOAR field, so I was limited to what I
could carry. Brought an Image 2m and my Soprano, two planes in my quiver
which I simply don't fly enough. Left the ICON's at home.
As soon as I park at the field I notice Jimbo is here, and he has a new toy
he is about to test launch for the first time. A big red model, a Pike
Perfect. Brand new with Philip Kolb's setup dialed into it. First launch
is about as good as you could ever expect from a first launch, hard fast
pull to the top and a clean zoom. This is a nice looking model, both on
the ground and in the air... (although I don't particularly care for that
sprayed in the mold logo on the wing). It is a large model, and has a huge
effective stab. Jimbo was effortlessly carving up thermals, and finally
gave TK and I a chance to fly it. I think is a very nice model, I can see
where this model could get popular. It's big, it's stiff, it has lots of
LD, effective stab and rudder, robustly built for contesting and travel,
everything I like in a big molded ship. I instantly felt comfortable with
it. I didn't get to land it, TK actually shot the first landing with it...
downwind ahhahahahahah Jimbo loves to see that done to his new models
with his friends at the sticks. ;-)
Flew the Soprano and TK flew his AVA. We decided to dial in the RES
machines a bit today. I keep forgetting how sweet my Soprano is. That
model is really a fun model to cruise thermals with. We basically drained
our batteries down specking out and trying to land. I would be killer in
RES if I could finesse land one of these things with a spoiler. ;-)
And finally trimmed out the CG in the Image 2m because Bubba made wanna fly
2m again this weekend. I have that model sorted out now, best 2m I have
ever owned. Skied out, thermal looped and shreded thermals, high speed
rolls and speed runs. Had some awesome low level flights under 100' just
setting up for a landing and it simply didn't want to come down. Surfed at
low levels for a long time, always fun.
TK is getting very good with the Insanity now, another fun large wingspan
plane to fly.
Perfect weather today, we used it up, tomorrows weather is supposed to suck.
