I've put up with a lot of different kinds of machines and software during
the last 30 years.
The truth is that most all computers are a pain in the ass, and, as far as
what computers did or didn't do ten, twenty or more years ago... who
cares? It's irrelevant. All do about the same things NOW.
Windows machines are cheap and work OK but require a LOT of OS (operating
system) maintenance. Macs are very dependable and do things very well but
fewer software titles are available - which is OK, cause most folks use
only Email and Browsers anyway. New Macs will run windows software.
Macs cost about twice as much as a comparable windows machine but require
very little OS maintenance at all... which begs the question "How much is
my time worth".
When I can afford it, I'm getting a dual core Mac and will phase out as
many (Windows) programs as possible. Those programs which will run only
under Windows can still be run on this Mac, however.
Like my parents said: When they declared WAR on POVERTY, "We
surrendered.... we had enough!"
With Windows, It is and will always be the S-O-S, and I've had enough.
I now recommend Macs to most non-gearheads (ya know, normal people, unlike
most of us).
I do not hate Microsoft nor Windows but just don't wan't to waste time
maintaining computers anymore.
P.S. - I sincerely hope that this thread won't be propagated very long.
