I was at an SC2 contest in the mid '70's and they had a format that included a round of speed. Mark was flying a Windfree, as usual. I was hanging out in the pits where a guy was putting a pound of lead in his Craft-Air Windrifter in anticipation of the speed run. Mark was there as well, and watched this guy loading up his plane. Mark reaches into his pocket, and pulls out a chunk of lead about 1/2 the size of a Las Vegas Dice, and says, "Well I better go ballast my plane, too."
He won the speed round.
