Hi Chip The South African team used two yokes made up by laminating multiple layers (4) of 10mm (+-3/8") ply wood. The material in mine was the base of a packing crate that some large printers came in. The laminate was cut to shape with a jig saw, and finished with a router and belt sander. Finally the wood was sealed and some rubber (old bicycle inner tube) wrapped around the grip area.
If you mail me off line I'll take some picks and rough dimensions and send along.
