Hi Ownee

We have avoided that problem in Aus [Australia] particularly with F3J/B
launches by removing the parachute from the direct strain.
Put your welded ring on the end of the line [braided or mono] or as we
do, make a loop and knot in the mono which has itself been enclosed in
a Spectra tube, which remains light, won't tear and more importantly,
is much safer on the rewind. You get the Spectra tube by pulling the
middle out of Spectra boating cord 3mm or so.

The line and spectra loop hook directly onto the tow hook.

The parachute is looped through itself around the line below the
Spectra/knot/loop to simply 'tie' it onto the line.

To stop the chute opening on launch just place one of the braided lines
from the top of the chute onto the tow hook before slipping on the
Spectra loop. With this set-up the parachute becomes just a passenger
and is only allowed to open after the main line comes off the tow
hook.

Sounds a little complicated, but it is simple in practice.

If you can't understand let me know and I will photograph our typical
setup.

I owe this idea to my mate Greg Potter.

Cheers
