Two solenoids in series is the best way to go, if one locks on the other
will cut the the winch off. Go to your auto parts store and by 2
solenoids 1970 or such ford starters at your local auto parts store.

We have an old winch in our club that has a single solenoid. It's been
in storage for several years and a new group of guys in the club want
to use it. Not being winch literate, are two solenoids necessary? Are
they wired parallel?
