In the late '70s, Graupner's Teckpokal contest (with over 300 contestants
back then) used a rope with point markers every 50 cm (about 20"). Final
approach had to be flown within a 10-meter wide corridor (as far as I
remember) for the last 50 meters. After touch-down, the model was not
allowed to rotate past 45 degrees, else get 0 landing points. Shedding
parts, flipping, or dorking were automatic zeros. Interestingly, almost no
one used flaps, and almost all used spoilers.
