The Magnum 12 was a big, old, lumbering 12-footer. The Grand Esprit was a prettier plane. Never built one for myself because I liked my 12 foot Soarcraft 604 better. Of the big winged planes, the Legionair would have been a better choice (just guessing since I never flew one). A year or so later (1976?), the Aquilla came out and quickly became popular (I flew one at the F3B trial in '76. How times have changed).
If you keep in mind that most of the planes of the era were performance challenged (flew like shit), the Magnum 12 flew well, if you didn't mind the lack of response. Compared to post 1976 planes, it was unimpressive. Build one for the nostalgia and fly it on warm, calm summer days, and you'll be happy. If you build one for winning nostalgia class, there are better choices. I miss my first R/C glider, the Cirrus (I still have it, but it's not airworthy). Anyone have a Graupner Cirrus kit NIB? Now that was a fine glider, especially for 1969. Ben Clerx ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
