I'm building Smooth Genie Pro #4. (see file 12 at
http://genie.rchomepage.com about this fiercely competitive, elegant,
lovely handling, scratch-buildable, bagged wing ship.) Fuse and tail
pieces, ready to fly, are awaiting the wing now being built.
This week I received a set of the best cores I've ever seen cut from
blue Spyder foam by Bob Mellen. It is really a joy to work with cores
that have right and left panels that are mirror images in 3D and match
perfectly in thickness where sections butt each other. I went whole hog
on everything on this one, but still figure I'll have under $400 max in
the airframe.
This ship will have the "no-tape, nylon shear pin" tip attach system
detailed near the end of File 3 and as detailed on pages 9 and 10 of
File 6 (the RDS file), the Kimbrough coupler/ adapter sleeve/ hypo
tubing drive shaft set up. It is such fun, after nearly 14 years of
refining the original Genie design, to still find little ways to improve
on the various airframes in the Genie line.
Lets see. . . .with this one, I will have built 37 of them. Reality
check. . . if you do the same for 14 years, at an average savings of
$1,000 on each over purchase of an ARF of similar capability, you'll
have saved $37,000 in after-tax money. Add in 5% interest and, as any
banker can tell you, you'll be over $50,000 better off.
What are you all building, creating, designing?
