Beginners thoughts on CRRC and FMS

I have been using CRRC sim for the last few weeks. I think its very
good for thermal flying but it does not (as far as i can tell) let you
fly the winch. You just start at predetermined but configurable
altitude. I do not have enough experience in real model flight (two 30
minute thermal flights, lots of 3 minute flights on a 2M and no slope
experience) to know how accurate it really is. You can turn the visual
representation of the thermals on or off during flight and when you
enter a thermal the plane will react to the lift accordingly. I have
CRRCsim and FMS working with my DX7 through the sound card. I like the
free software so I can save my loot for more planes. By the way... FMS
does have a winch launch that is OK and you can thermal but the only
way you can tell if you are in a thermal is by watching the ¨vario¨ .
FMS does slope better than it does thermals. CRRC has a neat discus
launch option (again I haven´t launched a real DLG yet so I don´t know
how accurate it is), the slope flying is fun, and it has a good
variety of planes. I am logging more time on these sims than my planes
due to being at work during almost all the daylight hours these days.
I hope I am not picking up bad habits from the sims that will effect
my real flying.
