Joe,
No, I just spoke to Chico and sign-ups have been extended through Friday
2/8. For anyone else out there wanting to do a last minute entry,
please go to the web site (casl.net), fill out the entry form and send
it in... better yet, just send the necessary information (write it out
long-hand!) :-) to Chico directly. His email is
[EMAIL PROTECTED] - send it NOW! :-)
Entries are down this year, probably due to all the bad press about
winches last year!
Good NEWS! -> Working with the smart guys at Visalia, we've completely
redesigned our winch / turnaround / retriever system. We're using
different strength twine on the bottom leg (which drags the ground) and
lighter stretchier stuff on the return portion. CVRC dudes taught us
this, and in our local competitions it has drastically cut down on line
problems.
In addition:
**** GOOD GUY REPORT ***
CASL's own Rick Bothell (you know him from
http://www.handsfreeretriever.com/) COMPLETELY rebuilt our winch and
retriever systems... from the ground up... LITERALLY! Rick not only
thoroughly rebuilt the winch motors, and designed a 'dropping resistor'
system to take a little 'hot' out of them, but he also fabricated REALLY
COOL metal frame stands to get them (and more of the twine) off the
ground. He's also got this really cool new direct drive version of his
retriever too (did I mention http://www.handsfreeretriever.com/ ???)
that is super quiet and efficient. It has a softer start to it, so less
line stress happens during the initial part of the retrieve. Rick (did
I happen to mention http://www.handsfreeretriever.com/ ??) is a really
good guy, who works more hours than any of us know to make this stuff
work... and thoroughly tests his innovative ideas on us CASL guinea
pigs! If you see him at the SWC, take time to recognize the
craftsmanship that goes into his system (that's
http://www.handsfreeretriever.com/ for those of you who missed it!), and
thank him for all the work he does to promote our hobby!
*** End of GOOD GUY REPORT ***
So, sorry to ramble on... but this is good stuff and it's going to be a
good-time-was-had-by-all contest this year, for SURE!

One more cool link - here's the satellite overhead image of the
actual
field we run the contest on. Zoom out from this to see exactly
where it
is in relation to the surrounding roads.
Technology... gotta love it!
