Mike, The electric soaring guys do this kind of thing on a monthly basis (X5J)- Bob Burson set it up several years ago and it seems to go well world-wide. He manages this on RC Groups so if you want to look over his techniques, take a look- http://www.rcgroups.com/electric-sailplanes.
I am only suggesting that if you get this going, perhaps RC Groups is a better format to spread the event (or both formats for that matter).
