I went out to the sugar cane field yesterday for my
first flights on my new 9303 2.4 JR in my Sharon. It
was fantastic conditions with little wind, puffy
clouds, and 70 degrees. Since I usually fly alone, I
had my wife help do a range test before I left home.
So, at the field, I put it together, wiggled the
sticks and launched. This system works great. I did
get, and use, a little capacitor type thing that Todds
Models has on his web site. If these 2.4 systems get a
spike in current use, the receiver can shut down and
take a few seconds to reconnect. This capacitor thingy
solves that problem - so far so good. Big thermals
were abundant. I was even thermaling inverted and fun
stuff like that. I got the switches set up where I
like them and I really like this new radio.
On my last launch I broke the line which balled up and
broke the brake lever on the winch. Oh well, I guess
I'll have to go to a heaver line.
As I tried to leave I got stuck in the mud. The more I
worked at trying to get unstuck the deeper I got. Well
I called AAA who said they would send someone but that
it would cost me because they don't pay if you get
stuck intentionally!!???
I was sitting there waiting as the sun got low and the
mosquitoes started to swarm when all of a sudden there
were thousands of little black birds going after those
bugs. This spurred me to get out my hand launch and
join them. As I flew around, the birds congregated in
a huge swirl above my plane. I flew over that giant,
red setting sun with all those swirling birds over my
plane, and it made a magnificent, memorable picture!
The tow truck did finally get there and get me out,
but not before he got stuck himself! He called me
three hours later at home to tell me he had just
gotten out after being rescued by a bigger tow truck.
Even though I got stuck, it was a great day flying a
the field.
