It was absolutely beautiful at the Poway Flying Site today. Temperature
about 75, wind about 5 mph and a new thermal about every 8 - 10 minutes. A
pair of Red Tailed Hawks shared the sky with us, frequently pointing out the
thermals that we may not have found. It is the hawk's matting season so they
are more interested in each other than in some sailplane. I would not mind
being reincarnated as a hawk, but we will need to negotiate the sex life.
All the toys in the car saw some of the beautiful air. The E Blaster
took about an hour of the late afternoon. The extra weight of the motor and
battery seemed to help on those long trecks upwind to catch the next thermal.
Of course the Supra got lots of action as it is nearly time for the trip to
Phoenix.
My Supra, 'Ole #42, is entering its third year of flying and by my
count, its 5th life. The wing, tail feathers and boom are original, but it is
on
the third pod. This one is 2.4 friendly so I can use my DX7 and AR7000
receiver with a satellite receiver. Setting up the Supra required some
patience
and the help of Mike L's program. I am learning to speak JR, but occasionaly
I relapse and think that a flap is a flap only to be reminded that a flap is
really a throttle or maybe an aux. Anyway it all works and I can find the
sub trim menu in less than a dozen clicks.
Today was the last day for top actuated flaps. Lots of glue, fiberglass
tape and words did not fix the problem so tonight they will be converted to
bottom horns and linkage. After two years of landing with the flaps down,
the mounts seem to unrepairable. If I had DP's thumbs, I could get the flaps
up before they hit the ground.
The sunset over the Pacific is fantastic tonight. Tomorrow looks like
another good one.
And you SOAR?
