Hi Tom- There evidently is some major packaging problem with the "6" minute epoxy. Some guys aren't having any problems, while others are having major problems. The guys are mixing 50/50, and yes, it's at room temp. We've done testing, and even heated the stuff way beyond what you'd normally do. Plain and simple, the stuff some of us have gotten IS NOT 6 MINUTE EPOXY. Interestingly enough, I gave a friend one of the sets and he took it home and tested it. His response? It behaves just like their 30 minute epoxy (which is really an "overnight" epoxy). Then, my friend mixed a batch using the new resin, and his OLD Tower 6 minute hardener, and it kicked just like it used to. We're guessing that the problem lies with their hardener being mis-packaged/mis-labeled. I'm sending mine back for the second and last time. Never again. The first time that I sent 6 sets back to Tower, I specifically told them what the problem was, and specifically asked them to test the new stuff and don't bother to send me the junk if it was the same as the last stuff. They evidently don't give their customers much credit, as I received the same quality stuff. Maybe they didn't think I'd notice that an hour later it hadn't hardened? For the last few years I've used gobs of their 6 minute for bulkheads, capping ailerons, sub TE, etc, and it fit the criteria I wanted. No, I wouldn't use any of manufacturers' short cure stuff where structural integrity is critical, but 5 and 6 minute epoxies do have their place. Is this a flame of Tower? You might just call it "running interference for Gordy". ; - ) In all seriousness, I just don't want to see anyone else have projects messed up because of Tower's failure to recognize and correct a problem which HAS been brought to their attention previously.
