I'd say that the "best" way is to use two fingers.

That said, Daryl and I both use thumbs...
It was the way that I learned to fly, and I'm not gonna
change.  I also think that mode 1 is a better choice, but
I fly mode 2.

Bottom line, probably doesn't matter a lot.  Do what ya
feel comfortable with.
