Hi All,

Our club, Intermountain Silent Flyers, located in Salt Lake City, Utah, has
decided to host the third Soar Utah. We have scheduled the event during the
Labor Day weekend (September 2-4) as the winds are more predictable and
favorable than in the middle of the summer.

The format will be similar to Soar Utah '98 with a primary emphasis on
having a great time flying. We will provide frequency control (impound) and
flight windows for scale, PSS (power slope scale), and slope ships. At the
end of the day, the format will be open and a frequency board will be
provided for frequency control. There will not be any slots during the day
for foamie combat due to time limitations, but they are guaranteed to
breakout at the end of the day.

Our club will cater lunch at the slope on
Saturday and Sunday. A catered dinner, static display, pilot's choice
awards and raffle will be held at a site close to the Point of the Mountain
on Saturday evening. Attendees can cast their votes for their favorite
planes that will be on display.

As with Soar Utah '98, we are planning a trip to 10,000' Francis Peak on
Monday for superb sloping and a world class view. If you are interested and
would like to know more, we have a club web site
(http://www.silentflyer.org) that provides details, Point of the Mountain
(primary slope) directions, registration information, lodging choices,
T-shirts prices/sizes, etc.

If you are not familiar with the Point of the Mountain take a look at the
photos on our club's website or browse some of the numerous magazine
articles that have followed the previous Soar Utah events (Model Airplane

The past Soar Utah events have seen 70+ pilots, including our AMA District
V.P., Rich Hanson. Many states were represented including California,
Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Colorado, Oklahoma, New York, Illinois, Texas,
Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Florida, Oklahoma, Iowa and Arizona.

BTW, this is the very same event which George Voss landed on his head when
he fell from the bed of the truck as he ALMOST finished the cross country
event. We felt sorry for George and gave him the first place trophy anyway,
besides as the CD, I felt it might avert a lawsuit ;-) and no we don't do
the XC event anymore.

Don't miss this event or you'll be kicking yourself when you see the
upcoming articles and photos. A lot of flying, a lot of planes, a lot of
people, a lot of fun!
