24 pilots took on the Davenport Man-on Man slope race. Those that arrived
earlier in the week were treated to 30 - 40 mph winds. This is full
ballast, maximum speed conditions, a situation that is very common for
Davenport. Saturday saw a shift in the weather pattern, and the winds
dropped to the 13 - 18 pmh range. The lighter winds slowed the times down
but created some very close and exciting racing. Most races were action
packed and offered the very best in MOM racing.

A group of 10+ workers made the contest run incredibly smooth, and 6 rounds
of racing were accomplished with ease. Average lap times were in the 2:20
- 2:40 min. range, for 8 circular laps on a long course. The Davenport
record of 1:42 (as best as I can remember) is still safe.

Unfortunately Sunday arrived with rain. Rain in California in May???? Go
figure. Three pilots had perfect scores, so the contest was decided by
fast times of the day. Final top 10 Results were as follows:

1. Bill Delhagen
2. Darrel Zaballos
3. Ray Kuntz
4. Rich Spicer
5. Gavin Botha
6. James Turner
7. Mark Grand
8. Doug Reel
9. Rick Schrameck
10. Scott Woodward

I was pleased to see many old CSR faces, as well as many new racers. Al
left with the promise to be back next year. Many workers were hooked, and
sweared to return as pilots next year.

Next May there will be another Davenport ISR! See ya then

Gavin
