On the "thermal spotters" I have, I use collapsable fiberglas fishing poles, extend to 15'. Not inexpensive, but portable. I have a base of 3'x3' ply with a floor flange and 3/8 pipe to attach the pole to. I have two now, and plan to add a third. Streamers are inexpensive: I use audio cassette tape and videocassette tape (narrow and wide). I have heard of folks using bamboo fishing poles and 1/2" PVC pipe for poles. FAI Model Supply ( http://faimodelsupply.com/ ) supposedly has "better" mylar streamers. --Bill On Thu, 25 May 2000 20:54:23 -0700 Bill Johns <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Greetings! Just watched the Joe (no grass stains on my planes) Wurts HLG video. Good Stuff. Sure gave me reason to rethink how I view streamers action and thermal location. Question 1. Any source for long, relatively inexpensive poles? Question 2. What was used for the streamers? Where to get some? I presume each pole had two with one being a heavier material so as to judge wind velocity. Thanks, Bill -- In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice there is.
