What the opinion on the use of an atlatl or a sling to launch a HLG. We
used to play with atlatls as kids and could increase the range of a bamboo
javelin by many yards. A sling made from an old sweatsock can easily double
my throwing distance of a golfball, passionfruit, water balloon, or toad =0.
We lost a bit of our accuracy though. If it could be worked out to launch
higher, would you consider a device for extending the arm or accelerating
the plane legal for competition? The wingtip thrown planes take advantage
of having the CG further from the hand and using centripetal acceleration to
add speed to the launch.
>From Webster's:
Main Entry: atlatl
Function: noun
"a device for throwing a spear or dart that consists of a rod or board
with a projection (as a hook or thong) at the rear end to hold the weapon in
place until released"
