It was nearly a perfect day in Poway, CA for the First Semiannual 2 Meter
contest. The overnight temperature was about 60 with fog in the valleys in
the early morning. By contest start time at 9:00 the skies had cleared and
the thermal activity started.
The task was a 30 minute add'em up, 5 flights, and no flight over 8
minutes. Flight points were 5 per second with 10 points for a perfect
landing on the 50 ft tape. The added constraint of choosing a minute in the
air for your target time and then flying a precision flight and landing
against that target time was a bit challenging. The chosen target time was
subtracted from the time remaining. With the landing only worth 2 seconds
air time, the decisions had to favor time.
