I would highly recommend taking the battery out for charging.
My 8uaf had a total battery meltdown while charging and it melted the case.
It also erased the memory from the op system of the radio.
Tower now handles all the futaba repair and they grossly misdiagnosed the
problem as water damage and wanted about $180 to replace the main board.
I picked the radio up from the repair dept. in person and it was in the same
(non water damaged) condition as when I sent it in.
I had been corresponding to one of their PR people and they stopped
replying to my inquiries about the situation. (I was in their town at the
time.)
I ended up buying a new 8uafs locally for less than the repair cost and
I will use the old radio for parts.
It is a great radio, but I wouldn't count on anything from the service dept.
