I think the point that some people are missing is that official timers
are not provided in most contests. Your helper/caller is simply counting
down your flight, and for convenience the time on his watch is usually used
as your official time too.
If an official timer was provided, as in the case of the F3B finals for
instance, he would do nothing but keep the official time while your
helper/caller counted down your flight. Since that official timer is not
provided, that non-existent person is the one who cannot count down the time.
