I have had my 3030 for close to 4 years now & would rate it as the best buy that I made in R/C, over the last 35 year's.
I had untill then used FF7's, in the form of computor radio's, both standard & glider versions, which behaved faultlessly, but I became disillusioned with the Japnese desease of bringing out new gear, thus making the old gear obsolete with minor changes.
Another problem was the fact that you had to use a 7 function Rx, when using ailerons due to output 1 & 7, on the Rx being assigned to ailerons. This does not matter on the 3030, as anything can be assigned to any output, there for a 6 channel Rx can be used, even 5 if the central flap is in one piece, plus many other advantages, that other sets did not offer.
I use all my old Futaba flight packs ie 148 Rx's 3002 servo's etc, with no problem. Jr3341 servo's work ok as well.
I have been given to understand that the Futaba Xtals will work in the 3030, with PCM Rx's, but have not tried it myself. Have always used Mpx Xtal's in Tx, Futaba Xtal's in Rx. Other systems pro rata. The new IPD Rx's from Mpx are very good & are not expensive when priced against Futaba.
Being a Mode 1 flyer, I will agree that the Tx is on the large side, but the sticks are close to the side's allowing me to use the Tx without a neck strap, which I personally do not like.
Finally could I reccomend that all flyer's who are interested in the 3030, visit Mike Shillims web site, at www.r-csoar.com.
This gives an excellent review of the system, plus a feedback from user's. One of interest is where a guy had used Futaba,JR & Mpx, in the Middle East on target drone work & the Mpx was the only one to carry on working in the heat & desert conditions
Finally I am dedicated RC flyer, with no conections to the trade, just like to see we all get the best value for money. What is the point of saving a few $ if you do not get the ability to get what you want from your gear.
