Hi Gang,

I guess I just do not get it. It sounds like there is almost no support for
this new rule so how come some small group of people can just up and impose
a rule like this especially right before the season starts without getting a
consensus vote from the masses. It sounds to me like we need to see what
kinds of planes these guys have secretly gone out and purchased prior to
this rule change. I for one have a great interest in flying F3J this year
and have spent over $2000 gearing up to be able to fly such events and now
the planes I have purchased are probably going to be at a disadvantage
because of a rule change that nobody agrees with and does not even
successfully address the safety issue they are using to be able to push the
change through. My expense is really minimal compared to the great expense
that the manufacturers of these super ships we all fly have laid down to
make molds and to purchase the materials in which to build our planes. I
think we need to just say no to the rule and look strongly at those in power
that are trying to implement such a change and see if they are really what's
best for our sport. One remote incident where proper safety guidelines were
obviously not followed does not warrant such drastic measure as these. Will
these rule changes save someone else's life or injury? Maybe. Will the new
rules result in a similar accident occurring? Maybe. When I have towed for
someone I never felt my life or body was in any grave danger or I would not
have towed. With the new proposed rule I WOULD NOT TOW or HOLD THE PULLEY
for fear something very bad could happen in the event of a line break or
worse yet someone letting go of the pulley. Neither of the above problems
even begin to address the possible shoulder, wrist or arm injuries which are
going to be more prevalent if we start tethering the pulleys to our hand or
wrist. Bottom line is the rule was not thought out properly and should not
even be considered. JMHO.

See Ya,
