Hi everyone,
I have to say this has been a delightful to see such a
prolific number of email messages coming on the changes to the F3j rules
following the unfortunate recent fatally where someone was killed by a stake
from towing system.
I would like to provide everyone with some food for thought
on this matter as I believe this whole issue has been dealt with excessive
haste!!!!!!!.
Let's consider what is most important for the sport /hobby
/ addiction???
Firstly no matter what we do to change the rules we still
participate in a potentially dangerous hobby or whatever.
If some was ever to be hit with a model the same
consequences would be more than likely.
Here are some questions you ALL need to answer if want to
address our future:
1. Is the use of a hand tow system REALLY the most important issue for
F3J in the future ????
2. Does is still meet the objectives that were originally considered to
be important when the concept was first proposed and then adopted ????, and
will it still continue to meet those objectives in the future having
particular regard to the most recent changes etc.
3. Will competitor and /or participator safety really be improved by
the most recent changes????
4. Should we not consider a standardized launch procedure for all
soaring events and say adopt the system for electric winches as per the F3B
rules?????.
5. Should we now consider only the use of Braided nylon so that cuts &
line breaks do potentially harm people as often as they have in the
past?????
6. Should we now give consideration to those clubs /countries / teams
that do not have the luxury of have large numbers of people available to act
as helpers / tow - persons in running F3J events and / or competing because
of these limitations. Let's now taken this opportunity to consider some
changes that will allow for greater participation in this hobby / sport
which would be of greater benefit to everyone????
LET'S THINK ABOUT THE BIG PICTURE AND START THINKING ABOUT
WANT WE WANT FOR THE LONGER TERM AND NOT BE SHORT-SIGHTED .
WHAT IS OUR VISION FOR THIS HOBBY / SPORT ??????????????
These are my thoughts , please don't take any offence with
my comments, but I want everyone to start thinking more about it .
Regards
Ken Fox
