If I owned a small business with a constant stream of customers,
and I was happy as a clam with it, why would I expand? That
would mean more work for me, and I'd end up losing some control.
If more money or being chairman of the board is my goal, then
perhaps I'd be willing to work harder and give up control.
Otherwise I'd keep on working out of my little basement shop,
happy as a clam.

Me too, as I'm still looking for that all-in-one "perfect"
