Tim I regularly fly in high winds here in bay area and up in Nv. If you can
physically stand the extreme conditions-proper clothing/goggles/etc then you
have to know how to get your plane off the hill in these high winds. Most I
see at the slope try to grasp the plane behind the wing when launching in
high winds and let me tell you, that is a recipe for disaster. Just the
other day at Davenport a couple of guys were trying to launch
a ballasted Synergy 91 in about 40 mph winds with similar results to yours.
After watching several attempts I couldnt stand it any more, landed and
launched their plane for them. It was fairly easy by simply changing grip
from behind the wing to in front of the wing in the nose cone area. It
feels akward but believe me it really makes plane easier to handle when
launching in higher winds-
