Sadly its no longer quite that simple. You also need to make sure all
ActiveX controls are turned off. The latest version of MS Outlook allows
someone to take over a victims computer by sending them an imbedded ActiveX
control in an email. There is no fix as of yet except turning off Active X,
which will reduce the functionality of some websites. Be vey careful about
even reading a suspicious email, exceution of attachments is no longer
needed. The best bet is to use a mail program that is a bit more secure, and
set it to only read messages as text. Download the latest version and
datafile for your virus scanner. If one is really worried they can check out
an alternative operating system, such as Macintosh, Linux or FreeBSD.
Lastly send an email to Microsoft and ask them why in the world anyone would
want an ActiveX or Java control in an email in the first place.
