Charlie,

AMA has always used the popular events
to subsidize the less popular ones.
This takes place even within soaring.
i.e. Scale and F3B have low turn outs.

Remember though, it was F3B that pushed
most of the advances in structures
and aerodynamics that we currently enjoy.

I have never seen anyone in my state
flying any of those free flight events.
I do know that my RC gliders have benefited
from advances in those other categories.
We also get many good modelers that
cross-over or "build up" to RC soaring.

I will admit that I raised my eyebrows when
I got my magazine this month and found what
looks like double coverage of RC aerobatics.
They look about the same to me. :-)

Seems like if they were going to split "scale
aerobatics" and "aerobatics" into two articles
that we should have SEVERAL for soaring.
This may have been a personal bias of the editor.
Every editor and every writer has some bias.

Bob constrained me to 2000 words for soaring coverage.
I had enough facts to write 5000 if he would let me.

As for choice of what soaring events got more words,
there is obviously personal bias in what I think
is newsworthy (Sorry Jim B). Point taken though,
one vote for more unlimited next year. :-)

Both the editor and myself DO listen to constructive
criticism. Feel free to email myself or
