I found the "expense argument" of getting to Indiana, kind of silly. The real question is, how badly do you want to test your skills against the rest of the country? Drive, initiative, and determination will always be part of any real test. In order to accumulate the best possible FAI pilots across the country, why would we search for them in their own club fields, were they already know "where" thermals accumulate, every ripple of turbulent air lingers, and the precise amount of ballast per windspeed and direction to nail that approach. Lastly, if an individual can't afford to get to Indiana, how in the world is he going to get to an FAI event, if elected to the team?
