Chris,
I think you miss the point of how we do seeding in our MOM contests. First
round is random draw for flight groups, then from the second round on fliers
are stacked by scores and basically like scores fly against like scores.
You do not carry a seeduing for the season or from one contest to the next.
The timer issue. I believe there is nothing in the AMA rule book or any
other provisions to promise you your timer every time. Ya, I have guys I
like and guys I like less to time, but everybody is in the same boat.
Your assumption that MOM is pure junk since making air time qualifies you
for a landing, that is the pure junk. MOM takes the random out and you are
scored according to the air you and your group fly. If you smoke a group
and you only stay up three minutes and everybody else stays up one, you
score a 1000 plus landing and the rest score 333 plus landing. Ya, you got
to land to win no matter where you are.
Frequencies are an issue, but around here, we usaually never have a problem
at our contests. Bigger contests everyone needs multiple freq capability
just as in F3J.
I do agree with two comments you make, Visalia (just as PHX) is as much a
social gathering as anything else, if you make wood all the better. But you
need to come to Muncie and find out that Muncie is very much a social event
too and is growing. Second, the F3x events are labor intensive and that
will hold them back forever. I would give anything if Joe's proposal for
F3J on winches would have passed, I enjoy them and hopefully I will be able
to fly them some more.
