Hi All, Gordy's last post titled, "Save this!!! Wing Connectors Source and PN's" prompted a bunch of emails to me with numerous questions. Hopefully, the following clarification will help.
I've been shipping Hoopes Wing Connectors for the last several years. I built the first sets simply because I was tired of fishing Dean's connectors out of my fuselage during setup and because I had access to numerous resources and could. Over the years I have made steady improvements and expansion of wing connector offerings. To avoid confusion prompted by Gordy's last post, I don't sell the raw connectors. Rather, I offer wing connector harnesses as basic as the connector and interface PCB/mounting hardware all the way up to "plug and play", no soldering required harnesses. The complete harness provides connection from the receiver all the way to the wing servos while providing connection at the wing/fuselage junction. The wing/fuselage junction is automatically made on the 2-piece wing rod mounted wings when the wings are attached. The 3-piece saddle-mounted wing has a floating single connector that provides complete connection for the entire wing while providing independent connections for EVERY lead. The connector CANNOT be plugged in wrong no matter how much adrenaline is coursing through your veins, even if they are calling your name to launch while you're still assembling your plane. There are three fundamental harnesses available that include: 2-piece wing rod mounted wings (i.e. Image, Addiction, Psyko, Sapphire, Esteem, Condor, Millenium, Super V, etc.), 3-piece saddle-mounted wing (i.e. Hera, Artemis, Icon, Stratos, Garnet, Extreme, etc.), 2-piece wing rod mounted wings with 3 servos per wing for scale and current TD configurations. The harnesses include pneumatic, machine crimped, gas-tight connections, on-board filtering components, stainless steel mounting hardware, twisted triple wiring, extensive documentation, entire harness checked on a computer cable tester, crimp connection pull test, and receiver lead identification labels. Early testing also included lifecycle testing with automated connector flexing equipment. The harnesses can be ordered with any number of options including: tin or gold contacts, receiver connections pre-attached, connectors in servo pockets pre-attached, RF attenuation extensions, connector protectors, custom lead lengths, and a bunch of other "wacky junk" requested over the years. Don Peters provides Hoopes Wing Connectors with each Icon and Image that he ships. He also stocks a little bit of each of the harness configurations. Tom Copp is stocking some Hoopes harnesses for the planes that he ships. Darwin Barrie is the sole distributor for Hoopes Wing Connectors to the IMAC crowd (acrobatic power planes too small to climb inside, but too big to call a toy). Of course, I sell them too ;-) Finally, answers to some of the most frequent questions: - No, I don't take plastic, but checks work just fine. - Yes, I have a domain name but the site hasn't materialized yet, so I am looking for a "webhead". - Yes, I do have a "regular job". - Yes, the Primary Glider on the Soar Utah website DOES have Hoopes Wing Connectors. - Yes, it might survive a direct hit into the side of the winch storage shed. Sorry if this post annoyed you. If it did, perhaps I should post my F3B Skeeter and F3J Skeeter for sale......
