Steve: As long as you are an AMA member, there is no trick to flying at Torrey Pines. There is a facility on site where you must register. There is a $5 a day fee for flying there. The scenery alone is worth the $5.
The main problem with Torrey is the air traffic congestion since it is also a favorite spot for hang gliders and paragliders. This is one area where you really have to watch the traffic. The weekends is where you will find most of the R/C guys, especially the Scale guys. On a good Sunday there is a carpet of scale sailplanes...a truely beautiful sight, both on the ground and in the air. One of the regulars there is Ron Brown. A really nice guy that will make sure you feel right at home. Others to ask for are Larry and/or Gary Fogel. If you meet Larry, thank him. He single handedly preserved Torrey Pines as a flying sight by getting it acknowledged by the Sate of California as a State Historical Site. Charles Lindberg learned to fly gliders there. For more information on Torrey Pines, the Gliderport and the Torrey Pines Gulls club check out our website at torreypinesgulls.org Hope this helps, Ron Scharck TPG Member ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Richman" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, February 15, 2002 8:02 AM Subject: [RCSE] Flying at Torrey Pines > Anyone a member of the Torrey Pines Gulls?
