Hi Guys
This is just a heads up for all NYX F3J
owners.
First let me say that this event should not stop
you buying a F3J NYX or enjoying the one you may have. It is a great flying
machine and even after the following event I would still happily cough up for
one for myself...on with the story.
A friends F3J NYX bit the dust in a big way the
other day on launch and the post-mortem revealled a nasty surprise. The
NYX he was flying has (had) a plastic elevator control snake modelled
on the Graupner plastic snakes with a thin piano wire inside. This is a system
which normally works OK....IF you solder the wire into the connectors at both
ends and support it well.
On the NYX it would appear that they simply crimp
the wire AND plastic into the brass connector at the tail end on the F3J
version(The F3B version used a carbon pushrod and so should not suffer this
problem) resulting in a false sense of security and, if your unlucky, a total
lack of elevator control at the worst possible time. In this case it failed at
the top of launch before the zoom resulting in a perfect verticle decent to
terra firma at a very high rate.....bin one NYX...A very sad day.
At this point, a week later, our local supplier has
not received a reply from the manufacturer regarding the situation and as we
should be able to learn from anothers experiences, please check yours before I
get to say that I told you so.
I would suggest that you inspect your linkage at
both ends to ensure its security and if its not soldered into the connectors,
fix it or replace it with carbon pushrods.
