I am not allowed to type the word, so someone else is typing skeg for me when it comes up...8^)...My suggestion...have a safety zone upwind and downwind of the spot, no one allowed to be there. Have the pilot and timer stand in an area perpindicular from it, and allow only upwind landings. Downwind or crosswind landings kill the entire flight score. That would be incentive enough to discourage that. That satisfies the safety portion of the thing, and does away with the dork. You would still have to judge the distance of your slide, and manage your energy on the approach and flair. If your flaps drag, retract them...If you're using spoilers, I hope they don't drag!
As for the full scale debate, there are many sailplanes that have 90 deg. flaps without spoilers. They are a joy to land. My HP-14 had 19' of flap on each side of the fuselage. But...I never got a single competition point for landings...I just installed my first skeg, and haven't had a chance to land with it as the weather, work, or wife have precluded my flying. I may change my anti-skeg standing when I get to try it...at least I'm keeping an open mind. Enjoy. Jack Womack __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
