Tom - I'm glad to see somebody that's treating this "Soaring Hall of Fame" with the respect that it truly deserves.
I am well and truly honored to be placed in contention by you. I have the highest respect for your opinions and think a lot of your works as well. I must respectfully request that my name be removed from consideration for this honor, however. I am a proponent of Mr. Woody Allen's philosophy in this matter. He has stated "I don't want to achieve immortality through my works, I want to achieve immortality through not dying." I very much agree. respectfully, Rob Glover ;-) >From Tom Hoopes: Hi All, Since the janitor just got added to the "Hall of Fame" I would like to nominate whomever came up with the idea of using the Sportube for transporting planes. I just scored the last Sportube at REI in Salt Lake City. I thought that I had got the wrong Sportube because of the very low price at the register. The clerk told me that they needed to discount the product to get rid of it because ski season was over. I wasn't going to argue with her. She then asked me if I was on my way up to the "hill", and I replied, "Yes of course!". I not sure, but I don't think that she was referring to "our" slope. I have transported my planes for years in their Coroplast boxes and never paid more than a 10 spot to the sky cap, until this last year. Apparently, the airlines have discovered that they can charge more to tranport my toy airplanes than to transport me. Further they don't even have to give my plane the "complimentary meal" (aka - worthless sack of nuts). While on the subject of the Hall of Fame, I have a couple of inductees: 1. The guy that designed the Skeeter. This is the most popular plane used to start a bon fires. 2. The guy that invented the Fun-O-Meter, as debuted at Visalia. 3. Phil Halford, who brought a new meaning to the word "Sparky". 4. Fred Mallet, for wringing the most our of a rental car on a flying outing. 5. Tom Nagel, creator of flying lawn ornaments. 6. Rob Glover, for not only being a great glider pilot, but also for his service as Mayor of Gloverville, and President of the American Cat Hockey Association. Lee Renaud, Walt Good? They've never even been members of the American Cat Hockey Association. Come on.... Tom Hoopes - ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
