While in Toledo, I made the foolish decision to send my purchases back to myself, rather than trying to explain what the bunch of wires and gizmos was doing in my carry-on luggage. Unfortunately, the only place I could find to ship it from was the Office Max store, which is an agent for UPS. I paid a little over $25 US to have one small box and a Speed 400 pylon kit sent to Ottawa. The total weight for the two boxes was less than 6 pounds. It took over a month, and a bunch of phone calls, for the two boxes to arrive. I was expecting that Canada Customs would insist on collecting an assortment of taxes, handling fees, and taxes on handling fees, as that is the usual routine. What I didn't expect was for UPS to add over $90 in additional 'Handling and Brokerage Fees" to the deal, as well as crushing the end of the kit box in the process! When I pointed out the damage, the twit behind the counter said that the packaging must be inadequate, because it got damaged! I wish I could have a business where I could contract to deliver something for an agreed price, take forever to produce it, and then insist on an additional payment of 5X the agreed price! Then I could insist that any damage must be the clients fault, because if it had been properly packed, I wouldn't have been able to break it!
I guess I'll have to find some other carrier next time!
