all this talk of how expensive DLG's are, and no mention of the uber-cheap Red Herring?!
Yeah, it's no performance ship, but for bang-for-your-buck, you can't beat $30 for the cores from http://www.flyingfoam.com. It's 34" stock, but you could get them to make the big-o Herring, just give them the specs. The "expensive DLG issue" was something that struck me when i first saw them. I saw Bruce and Ellis from LASS here in town (louisville) throwing them last summer -- and the thought of "WOW, i've GOT to get into this" struck me. Being the cheap-hobby guy that I am, I did a lot of searching, and decided on the Red Herring from Thermal-Gromit(RIP) for a starter DLG. Man! Was I ever blown away. Yeah, it's a flying wing, yeah, it's made of foam, and I know some folks have hang-ups about that, but for shear fun, toughness and portability, you can't beat it! I normally get something on the order of (and this is my rought estimation) 60-75 foot launches with my "beater herring" that has been cut down at the root to mosquito-scale. Can't wait to order my new cores, too! -- ben wilson [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://thelocust.org http://phliteklub.org RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
