Well, since the Winch Doc has made an all too rare posting in an effort to train us unwashed masses to make our winches work better, I'll ask a question myself.
I have a newly rebuilt 6 volt Ford long shaft with some Real Balls. I have a brand new armature that the Doc Himself found for me. New brushes, installed with care like the Doc says (setting the brush holders just right). 2/0 welding cable for wire, kept short. A pair of the good solenoids and a safety switch. Runs great. I have it on a winch with a 2 inch drum (thanks Tim McCann). We're talking some major torque, this thing will definitely pull. How do I optimize the timing? Seems like I should probably run it a little bit advanced, but how do I figger out how much? I don't want to hurt my pretty, and expensive motor. I would like to see it rip the wings off a moldy old airplane;-) TIA - Rob Glover RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
