We used to use a clear tape permanently attached to the root (about 1" wide) to eliminate the covering from being pulled loose by the attaching tape. (The attaching tape sticks down on top of the permanent tape.) For the permanent tape we used SlickTac which was used to make decals but is probably no longer available. However, any clear, high-tack tape (you don't want IT to peel off) will do. I like Scotch 600, for example but almost any will do. It's amazing how many clear tapes there are out there! Wrap the permanent tape all the way around the root. Then during each flying session, use 3M vinyl tape which holds well but is also easily removable.
