Open the picture that you want in Photosuite under "Edit or Enhance Photos". Look at the bar on top of the image and you will see the image files name and size (ie. glider.jpg 638x559x16.7million). Write down the images size (in this example 638x559). Now using the selection tools drag a box around the image and select copy from the "Edit" menu. Now close the image, if prompted to save any changes choose NO.
Now from the "File" menu choose "New" then "Image". In the "New Image" properties box that opens select an image size larger than the size of the image that you wrote down (for this example I will use 800x600). When the new image window opens select "Paste" from the "Edit" menu and your copy of the original picture will appear in the window. You can now use the text tool "A box" to place your text in the picture where you want it, even outside of the original image. Remember that your original image is now only part of a larger image so you can add text outside of it.
When you are done adding text you can use the rectangular selection tool to select your picture and text from the image on screen. Then from the "Edit" menu choose either "Copy" or "Cut". Now close the open image window, once again don't save changes.
Go back to the "File" menu and choose "New" then "From Clipboard". Your copied picture will open in a new window that is sized correctly for the new file. Save that image and you are done.
The above works in Photosuite version 8, however I don't know how to set a backround color for the image. You will have to do that before you paste the copy of the original image in the second larger "New Image" in the second paragraph. It takes longer to read how to do this than it actually takes to do.
