A good thread indeed. I'm almost done restoring a Sailaire. All that's left is to cover one of the wings, install the spoilers, paint the fuse, install the receiver and balance it. There's a RES contest this Sunday and I'm hoping I have it done it time to compete. There will likely be no wind, NO sun, and a very low ceiling, with a misting of rain. Ahhhhh, the northwest!

Once that is finished, I will unpack my Majestic and put it on the building board. I'm planning on following about half of the mods Drela suggests (including carbon sparcaps). I figure if I really like the plane and do well with it, I can always build another wing and follow all of his instructions to a T. Besides, I'm much more likely to try full pedal launching it if I don't spend countless hours building the wing.

That's all for now. I'm hoping to have the Majestic done in time for TD season, but I build slow so it may be the middle of the season before It's ready to fly. There usually aren't a lot of really competetive planes in the RES class up here, so maybe I will fly the Sailaire until I complete the Majestic. I've heard the Sailaire is a dead duck in sink though.

Hmmm....having finally completed my first big plane, a Sting-DS (woohoo...first flight was last week), I move on to projects that were previously semi-abandoned.

First up is a 3 meter Gambler racer with Sage-built composite wings. I've had this one nearly complete for nearly 2 years, but keep getting side-tracked. I'm hoping to get it done soon so I can use it as a first F3F plane.

My other project is a new wing for my CR Climmax. Mine has the poly wing, and I wanted to make an aileron version so it'd be more fun on the slope. Unfortunately for the Climmax, I bought a Mini Acacia a little while ago, which has become my star light lift sloper, so the Climmax wings sit in limbo. Damn you F3X and your moldies!

I'll also be doing a review article about an electric sailplane (my first!) in the very near future.
