I love my Kestrel 100, I have been flying it for the
past year at the Orlando Buzzards field and had
nothing but very nice comments from fellow buzzards.
If I build another one I would make the tow hook
position adjustable, I made mine rudder, elevator,
flaperon, and spoilers. The spoilers are very
effective the only change I would do next time is to
put the spoiler servos in the wing instead of in the
fuse, a lot simpler to construct that way. The
flaperon was a bad Idea, I get flutter if I go a
little too fast
( caused three servos to strip gears), my suggestion
is to build separate flaps and ailerons and put the
flap servo close to the middle of the panel( instead
of towards the inboard). By the way, these suggestions
( and many many more)I received from fellow buzzards,
thanx guys.
Also be sure to read , read, and reread the
instructions over and over. There are some
discrepancies in them I think what Sal did was copy
the instruction booklet of the Kestrel 2 meter and
didn't incorporate all the changes in it. The plans
though are excellent, I taped the plans on the wall,
this way I can look at them while I read the book,I
made a copy for my building board.
A good suggestion was to drill two holes in the nose
block (from the back side) and used later for nose
weight.
I have used a high start but, with the winch I get
much higher launches.
I hope this helps
Raed
