We at The Seattle Area Soaring Society (SASS) want to thank those in the RCSE community for sending letters to our misguided local authorities. Letters from SASS members as well as those from around the world are helping.
Many of you that attend Visalia no doubt either know or are "aware of" our leader in this battle...Sherman Knight...You know Sherman...he's the one sitting in the spectator area of the nighttime pylon races shouting (do I dare say yelling) at the pilots to fly the opposite direction... Fortunately for SASS, in addition to being a top notch pilot, Sherman is a top notch layer that specializes in land use matters. Sherman has spent countless hours on behalf of SASS researching and plotting the strategy that would awaken the general public about the issues at 60 Acres. He has purposely not contacted the media. He wanted to wait for the media to come to us, knowing that when they did, it would because word was spreading...well, they finally came. Last Saturday both a local news station and the major metropolitan newspaper, The Seattle Times, were on-hand at 60 acres for pictures and some face time with Sherman and at least 30 SASS members that came to fly and show our stuff. The following Sunday, the local TV station had a slot with pictures, and interviews with Sherman and David Beardsley. Today, the Seattle times has a FRONT PAGE article with pictures and additional information on page 16....as Sherman is known to holler at the beginning of a zoom launch....yeeeeehaaaa Before you go looking at the media stuff....a personal thanks to Sherman and the other SASS members (too many to name) that are spending lots of time and energy on this.
