Don't use paper towels as they tend to disperse acetone rather quickly. rather use an old t-shirt or equivalent cloth which retains wetness and is thus more effective.
On fuselages or larger surfaces, use a non-plastic paint brush (bristle, metal and wood) and just paint then wipe the surface to remove paint, monokote color remnants, etc.  Paper is ok here as you'll need a lot of it.  Also, do it outside!
