Dave, Steve, Brian, and Charlie,

Thanks for a great day.  I finished the day sunburned, and a little dehydrated, but smiling a bunch.

Dave did a great job CD'ing.  His laid back style kept things moving along nicely.  Dave knew in advance that the turnout was going to be low, but made the trek to Banos anyway.  It speaks volumes about what a great guy he is.

Steve gets kudos for bringing the timing gear down  to the race, and even more kudos for bringing Charlie, she's a real trooper to come out and help.

Brian is flying the Pike very smoothly and really got a feel for the course by the end of the day.

I had a great time and really appreciate the opportunity to get some solid practice.  I started out flying the new Caracho.  I really haven't flown it in big lift, but it does OK in the variable conditions that inland slopes offer.  I'm not pleased with a few of it's attributes, and turned consistently faster times with my F3F NYX.  The F3F NYX climbs better, goes faster, gets on step and stays there...and is a ton easier to fly.  The only thing the Caracho does better than any other plane I've owned is turn on a dime and give 9 cents change...man that thing comes around quickly.  All in all, the Caracho is a beautiful ship, but when I care about my standing in the contest, I'll pull out the NYX.

I hope to see more of you all next month,

Subject: [F3F] Los Banos results (22 rounds flown!)

A big thanks to  Brian Yumae, Tim Cone, Steve Situm and his girlfriend
Charlie for making it to the race. It was hot and breezy  from 11am til we
left around 5:30 pm.

We decided because of the low turnout to take advantage of the day by
practicing. Man o man did we practice. Charlie took care of running the
timing gear and writing down our times (thanks Charlie!) as the rest of us
shuffled between bases and flying. Each pilot was allowed to fly 3-5 heats
each time they were up and this allowed us to fly a whooping 22 rounds!
Times ranged from 45.xx  to 75.xx  which made for a challenging   practice
session.

This was Brian's second time flying F3F and I was quite impressed with his
flying skills. By the end of the day he knew where the corners were and was
cranking some hard turns with his Pike. No doubt this man will be on the
podium in some of our future races. Nice going Brian!

Steve Situm was flying very consistantly  and at times made me wish I owned
a Stratos. That plane is just amazing in the right hands.  Tim Cone was
flying his Caracho and this is another great example of a very grippy plane.
Even in light air this plane just snapped around very quickly. Sweet!

Next race will be August 10. I'm hoping to have a course at Davenport
figured out by then so hopefully we can finally have a race on the coast.

If anyone is interested in having another practice day drop me a note and
I'll see what we can get going. If your a newbie thinking about giving this
F3F thing a try drop me a note and I'll make sure to include you in any
future practice dates. Keep in mind that any  type of glider will work for
getting started.

Dave
